One last thing: do you think it would be possible in 2.80 to add a further condition to discount coupon, so that discount is appliable if "subtotal amount is at least X.XX"? It'll be of greatest use, to incentive customers to spend more to obtain the discount. Besides, it shouldn't be much work...

More important than using a new default template is to update the site to a CSS framework such as Twitter Bootstrap or something similar, that way people can use the default implementation and twitch it with all the new goodies with much more ease, among all the other benefits of upgrading to a modern layout.
